The Tailored Perspective: Lauren Caruso
Lauren Caruso, Site Director of The Zoe Report
Tell us about your work.
My main gig is at The Zoe Report, where I’ve been the Site Director for just over a year. I spend most of my days in and out of appointments with brands, working with my team to create thoughtful features, and helping ideate and execute our new visual identity. On the side, I work as a digital consultant, helping brands create content and refine their consumer-facing messaging.
Describe your ideal working environment.
I love the flexibility that comes with both of my current roles. Because neither position is specifically tailored to the hours of 9-5, I’m working around the clock on both TZR and my side projects. I love being able to work from wherever I am, whether that be my office, a coffee shop, or a hotel while traveling.
What inspires you?
When it comes to overall inspiration, it’s the diligent work ethic of my closest friends that pushes me to be and do better. I love collaborating with those I respect, like Alyssa, when I feel like I need a boost.
How does what you’re wearing affect your work day?
My outfit is paramount in setting the tone for my day — especially on days where I’m in a lot of external meetings. If I feel put-together, confidence comes naturally.
Describe your ideal wear-to-work outfit.
I don’t think I have a singular outfit that I like best, but in the summer, I love pieces that make me feel instantly polished, like a shorts suit or a slip dress paired with an oversized blazer.
What is your approach to dressing for work?
I usually start with one item — it might be a new skirt or a top that I want to wear, or perhaps a pair of shoes I’m excited about — and work my way up or down. I’m lucky in that there’s no real dress code for any part of my job, so I have a lot of creative freedom with my outfits.
What makes you feel empowered?
I feel empowered when I’m able to be creatively autonomous. I love working with other people, but I like to know that the other party — whether that be a co-worker, a brand I’m collaborating with, or a friend — trusts me intrinsically. It takes time to earn that trust, but once you feel it, it’s incredibly empowering.
