Welcome to RT Stories, a conversation about life and style with a few of our favorite women and fans of the brand. Through a series of personal narratives, we’ll explore the transformative power of clothing—illustrating Rebecca’s belief in designing emotional pieces that epitomize enduring style, while enhancing the dynamic spirit of the women wearing them. In the first edition, Rebecca muses about her career and reflects on two special pieces of clothing from her own closet.
chapter 1: Rebecca Taylor
On being a designer… “For me, fashion is a vocation. It’s not something I can or cannot do, it’s just something I do and always have. You're born with it”
Best part about being a woman…
“being a mother.”
On the customers… “I’m very passionate about making all of our customers feel as beautiful and confident as they possibly can. Being a female designer and a married, working mom, I have a deep understanding of what my customers are looking for, whether it’s a date-night outfit or a taking-the-kids-to-a-birthday-party outfit. Feeling like you haven’t lost your fashion soul no matter what your day looks like.”
On her dress…“I remember this dress and this night so well. I had just given birth to my twin daughters and the CFDA Awards ceremony was my first big night out. I literally bumped into David Bowie and I will never forget it because he’s had a tremendous influence on my life and is a real source of inspiration for me.”
On her sweater… “This piece is very sweet because it’s the first sweater I designed for my collection in the nineties. Shrugs were very big then and my friend’s grandmother hand-knitted it for me.”
What makes you feel the most like you…
“a glass of wine.”
On magic in the everyday… It’s easy to get frustrated by simply turning on the news, but there’s a lot of good going on every single day around you. It might be the sun reflecting on water or overlooking a ballet class from your office window. Magic in the everyday makes you feel happy and the more you find it, the happier you are.”
