Shop: Rebecca Taylor Dallas

Explore our just-opened store—and discover a few favorite destinations in our new home city. From the floors to the furniture, each one of our stores is entirely unique. Rebecca and our Director of Visual Merchandising collaborated on every detail to incorporate the local landscape and architecture, new artists and the shape of the space itself to create an environment that’s one of a kind. (And of course has those little moments of magic.) Take a swing around our new shop and see more of what’s inspiring us in Dallas.

A Personal Touch

Rebecca’s husband, Wayne Pate, is an artist in his own right, known for his illustrations, paintings and prints, and he also dabbles in wallpaper design, like this special pattern he dreamt up just for the Dallas shop. The playful poppies on a pale blush background (our signature shade) add that personal element to the store.

We collaborated with Brooklyn-based artist Fernando Mastrangelo on a crystallized salt rock and cement wall that nods to Dallas’ eclectic architecture. The mix of raw-yet-refined elements is typical of his work, which he casts from everyday materials (think salt, coffee, sand and glass).

How do you bring a bit of magic to something as functional as flooring? We settled on creating custom terrazzo tiles flecked with varying shades of pink marble, colored glass and bits of mirror, which shimmer as you walk through the shop. The result is warm, subtle and adds that element of the unexpected we love.

Stay: The Joule

Bridging the Dallas of old and new, this 1920’s bank building turned boutique hotel is one of the city’s Neo-Gothic gems. The jewel in the crown is the tenth floor pool, which has a see-through wall and is cantilevered eight feet out over the city, so you can take in the view while you swim.

Located in the center of the Dallas Arts District, the stunning indoor-outdoor museum was designed by Renzo Piano in collaboration with landscape architect Peter Walker. Explore the vast galleries or take in the sun and sculpture in the one and a half acre gardens. A must for your visit: Joel Shapiro’s giant “floating” Lego-bright objects, commissioned for Nasher.

The Joule has made downtown Dallas a destination for foodies, but our favorite is CBD Provisions, which adds a definite Texas spin to farm-to-table brasserie cuisine. The wood, brick and marble space is also as beautiful as the food is delicious. We love the Pimento Cheese Toast and Whole Hog Cuban sandwich.
