The Appeal Of Tweed
My first real shopping splurge ever was this Chanel tweed jacket — an iconic piece that goes beyond fashion to the point of being legendary. It was a must-have purchase which celebrated a now-I've-made-it moment, and I still cherish it to this day.
Tweed is a constant in my collections as I love its versatility. It's an all-season fabric made of combining many different threads, so the possibilities are endless: varying the weight, the stretch, the structure and the texture, and playing with embellishments and trims and even shine. Although it is traditionally a more-refined fabric, I love to rebel against tradition by designing it in a bomber silhouette, fraying the edges, or piecing it with denim. Personally, I usually style my tweed jackets casually over a tee with jeans.
I asked Nicolette, our store manager at Madison Avenue, why customers love our tweed and she explained: "Versatility... you can throw it over a dress or jeans, sleeves up. It's a jacket without a "capital J" — the structure of a jacket with the comfort of a sweater. They mention its value... it has the look of luxury, yet it's a classic that won't go out of style."
